IT Facilities in the Library

For help with using IT services at the University, such as UniMail, Brightspace, WiFi, and changing your password, please see the Computing Services help pages:

Computers and Laptops

There are more than 500 computers, including over 30 Macs, available in the Library and the 24/7 Computer Suite (in the Schwann building, entrance next to the Amazon lockers).

If you're looking to use a computer right now, you can check the current availability.

Booking is not required to use a computer in the library, just come along any time we're open and use whichever computer is free.

The Library has 250+ laptops available to borrow from the self-service lockers outside of the library entrance during opening hours. We recommend you check to see how many laptops are currently available before travelling in (scroll to the bottom of the page).

When the library is closed the building will be locked so it will not be possible to borrow or return laptops outside of those hours. You can borrow a laptop for up to 7 days. Laptops cannot be renewed or booked in advance.

To report a technical problem with a laptop or the self-service lockers, please email

Printers and Photocopiers

Our combination printers, photocopiers and scanners are on every floor of the Library, and in the 24/7 rooms. The Library printers print up to A3 size.

When you print from any computer in the Library or 24/7 room, your work is held in a queue. You can then go to any printer within the Library and release your work so that it prints while you are there to collect it.

To release the work hold your ID card against the front of the printer, then select Print from the touchscreen and tap the name of the document(s) you have sent to print. Please wash and/or sanitise your hands before and using the printers.

If you haven't previously used your card on one of our devices, you will have to enter your username and password. You will be prompted to do this when you scan your card.

You can also photocopy from the same machines: log in by holding your ID card against the front, then select Copy from the menu and follow the on-screen instructions.

Scanners

A4 desktop scanners are available on each floor and A3 scanners are available on floor 3. The scanning service is free of charge to staff and students.

You can also use our Scan to Email service which is available from each of the printers within the Library. You may find these help sheets useful:
