Door to Door Delivery

If you are unable to come to the library in person, we can send books and journal articles to your home or work address in return for a small charge.

You can use the Door to Door Delivery Service if you are any of the following:

  • part-time students
  • students on work placement
  • sandwich year students
  • students with disabilities
  • students resident outside the Huddersfield postcode area

Books are sent by Recorded Delivery, which requires a signature on receipt. Journal articles and book chapters are supplied by e-mail as PDF files.

We aim to process requests on the day of receipt if we receive them before 14:00.

What can I request using Door to Door Delivery?

Please use Summon to check whether the items that you wish to request are available.

Books

Only ordinary loan copies of books from the Main Lending Collection can be borrowed via Door to Door Delivery.

Due to current loan regulations books can only be posted to UK addresses. If we do not stock a title you require we can generally obtain a copy via the Inter-Library Loans service and then send you a copy of up to one chapter from a book.

Journals

Most of the library's journal articles are available online via Summon, but if you need a copy of an article we only have in print, you can request it using this service.

You may request journal articles subject to copyright limits, i.e. only one article from a specific issue of a journal title.

If you request articles from journals that are not held in the Library and Computing Services, we will obtain them for you via the Inter-Library Loans service.

Loan and return of books

We use your campus ID card number to issue all books that are sent out to you.

The loan period includes a few extra days to allow for the time taken for delivery.

Normal loan regulations apply to the books that you have borrowed via the Door to Door Delivery Service and you are responsible for returning books by the date due.

If you intend to return a book by post, we recommend that you do so by Recorded Delivery.
