6.2 Participation in OAISter

OAISter is the union catalogue for millions of records representing open access content. It is freely available for searching and discovering resources and can be contributed to via the OCLC WorldCat Digital Collections Gateway. OAISter utilized the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH). There are a variety of formats represented here from:

  • Text
  • Audio
  • Visual
  • Photography
  • Data
  • Theses and Dissertations

Using the OCLC WorldCat Digital Collections Gateway gives librarians the ability to set the harvesting schedule of their collections and to delete records as needed. As long as your repository is OAI compliant, you can contribute to the OAISter. This directory helps to expose all locally created content to a much wider scale and is strongly encouraged.
