2008 Dynix Users Group/ European Unicorn Users Group Joint Conference

The 2008 conference was held at Southampton Solent University Conference Centre on 14-16 May.

Booking

Please download the booking form (Word doc) and return to Southampton Solent University by 25th April at the latest, or by 11th April to benefit from a reduced rate for the full conference.

Accommodation

The Conference Hotel will be the 3* Jury's Inn in the centre of Southampton within a short distance of the Conference Centre. Further accommodation is available locally, including the Premier Travel Inn. We have made a block booking at the Jury's Inn with a substantial discount rate of £71 per night including breakfast (£80 per room double occupancy). This will be bookable via Southampton Solent University (see details above).

Air

Southampton Airport (SOU) is approximately 4 miles from the Conference Centre.

For UK & Irish delegates, the following airlines fly to Southampton Airport:

  • flybe (Belfast City, Dublin, Edinburgh, Galway, Glasgow, Leeds/Bradford, Manchester, Newcastle)
  • Aer Arann (Cork)
  • Eastern Airways (Aberdeen, Inverness, Leeds/Bradford, Newcastle, Wick)
  • flyglobespan (Dublin)

The Uni-link U1C bus provides a regular link from the Airport to Southampton Central railway station (approx journey time of 45 minutes). The Railway Station is about 1/2 mile from Jury's Inn (Google Map)

According to Wikipedia, in 1936 the first test flights of the Supermarine Spitfire were conducted at the airport, an event commemorated in 2004 with the erection of a near-full size sculpture of K5054, the prototype Spitfire at the road entrance

Rail

Southampton Central station is approximately 1 mile from the Conference Centre. There are regular services to London Waterloo and other major stations in the South of England, Cardiff, and Manchester Piccadilly (via Birmingham New Street and Birmingham International).

SirsiDynix are offering 2 free workshops to delegates as follows:

  • Fri 16 May 2pm-3pm - What's new in 3.2? Implementing new features of SirsiDynix Symphony's Acquisitions, Serials Control and Circulation (target audience: general)
