[edit] Introduction
The University of Huddersfield now uses a version of the Athens service called AthensDA (Athens Devolved Authentication).
AthensDA allows you to access Athens authenticated resources (such as EBSCO, Emerald Fulltext, Lawtel, and Science Direct) using your University network log in details.
If you have used Athens in previous years, then your "hud" username will no longer be valid for logging into Athens authenticated resources - please see "How to Access Athens Resources Directly" below for more information.
When you log into MetaLib, you are also being logging into Athens DA at the same time. This means you can then access Athens authenticated resources from within MetaLib without having to log in again
[edit] How to Access MyAthens
If you want to browse the "MyAthens" full list of Athens authenticated resources, then you need do one of the following:
1) Access "MyAthens" using Metalib
Log in to MetaLib and do the following:
- click on the "My Subject" tab
- click on the "Titles" tab
- type my in the "Title" box and check the "Start with" option
- click on the green "GO" button
- select the "MyAthens Resource List" entry
2) Access "MyAthens" directly
To access "MyAthens" (or any other Athens resource) directly, then do the following:
- set your AthensDA "Institutional Cookie" by going to https://library.hud.ac.uk/athensda/setcookie2.html
- go to the Athens web site (http://www.athens.ac.uk) and select the "MyAthens" link:
- click on "Go to the University of Huddersfield login page" link:
- log in with your University network login details:
- once you have successfully logged in, you will see the "MyAthens" homepage:
[edit] How to Access Athens Resources Directly
The easiest way to access Athens resources is to log in to MetaLib and then access the resource from there.
If you would prefer to access Athens resource directly, without using MetaLib, then you will need to set a cookie (called the "Institutional Cookie") on your computer - you can do this by using the following link:
When you try to access an Athens resource directly, Athens will use the cookie to send you to the University of Huddersfield's login page. You can then login using your University network login details.
For example, go to the Science Direct home page (http://www.sciencedirect.com/) and follow the Athens Login link at the top right:

If you previously had a "hud" prefixed Athens username/password, then it will no longer be valid.
To access both MetaLib and Athens resources, you must now use your University network login details. This is the same username and password that you would use to log into a University PC, log into Blackboard, or to access your Webmail.
