Maintenance work on-campus (22nd/23rd July)
Maintenance work is being carried out by Yorkshire Electricity on equipment located on campus and power will be switched off between 08:00 and 16:00 on Saturday 23rd July. There will be no access to IT systems on campus, or access to web services from off campus for the duration of the power outage. Once power has been restored, all IT services will be systematically switched back on but due to the amount of equipment this involves, this operation will take a number of hours.
At present, we anticipate that Library Services (such as the library catalogue and access to e-resources) will cease around 4pm on Friday 22nd. Normal service should be resumed by 8pm on Saturday 23rd.
Ongoing service interruption (resolved)
Library Services are still recovering from a campus wide outage yesterday, which took place just after midday.
I’m pleased to say that the following services have just been restored:
- access to e-resources (journal articles, ebooks, etc) via Summon
At present, the following library services are still down:
- library catalogue (including book renewals)
- self-service facilities for borrowing and returning books
Please accept our apologies for this unplanned downtime. If you have any questions, please email library.support@hud.ac.uk
UPDATE: 3:55pm
The library catalogue is just being brought back up, so you should be able to access your account if you want to renew any items you have on loan.
All items that were due back yesterday (13th July) or today (14th July) should now have a due date of Monday 18th July. As long as the items are returned on (or before) Monday, they will not accumulate any fines. Also, you will now be able to renew those items (unless they’ve been requested by another borrower) without being fined.
Also, both days will be marked as “closed” days on the library system. If you already have overdue items, then no fines will be added for today and yesterday.
UPDATE: 4:35pm
We’ve done some testing and we believe that everything is back up and running normally now. If do you spot anything unusual, please let us know!
Once again, apologies for this period of unplanned downtime.
360 Link downtime (15th July)
Serials Solutions, who host our Link Resolver (360 Link) will be carry on maintenance on their services in July. This may result in short periods of downtime on Friday 15th July 2011, between 6pm and 7pm. If you receive any error messages when clicking on articles in Summon during that hour, please wait a minute and then try again.
Please accept our apologies in advance for any inconvenience caused by this planned maintenance.
Taylor & Francis Online
The new ‘Taylor & Francis Online’ site was launched yesterday. Unfortunately not all journal content has been transferred over from the old site. Taylor & Francis are aware of this problem and are working on it.
Mintel in Summon
We’re pleased to announce that Mintel Reports are now available within Summon.
The reports should have the “Content Type” of “Report”, so you can easily refine your search to show just the Mintel items, e.g. company report
Campus network outage
Due to a severe hardware failure in one of the core network switches this morning, on-campus access to e-resources (and pretty much everything else!) has been problematic. At present, we’re expecting everything to return to normality tomorrow morning (3rd June). As far as we can tell, off-campus access hasn’t been affected as badly.
Please keep an eye on the Computer System Availability web pages to find out the current status.
Web of Knowledge and IE9
A statement from WoK…
Currently the Web of Knowledge platform does not support Internet Explorer version 9 browsers. Therefore, in order to view the results using this version of the browsers, users need to turn on the compatibility mode in the browsers or switch to a different browser that is compatible. For example: Firefox 3.5.
The users can enable the compatibility mode in the browser as follows:
1. Click on Tools menu
2. Click on Compatibility View Settings
3. Type ‘isiknowledge.com’ in the textbox and click on Add
The issue is with the TR development team, however at this time they are unable to provide a confirmed time-frame when this browser version would be made compatible with the Web of Knowledge platform and we will update you when this is known.
