The End is Nigh …for MetaLib
As announced previously, Summon will officially replace MetaLib at the end of July. So, to help you plan for the switchover…
My MetaLib
If you’ve saved journal articles in MetaLib and you want to keep them, then you’ll need to export them (e.g. to EndNote) or email the abstracts to yourself.
Resources and Databases by Subject
Although we’d recommend using Summon to locate relevant articles, there’ll be times when you want to use a specific resource or database. The Electronic Resources List provides an A to Z list of major resources and databases, as well as individual lists for specific subjects. You can find a link to the list from the Summon home page.
Alternatively, you should be able to find links to your favourite resources within Summon, e.g. Mintel Reports and Cochrane.
Journal List
The new A-Z Journal List went live in February, so there won’t be any major changes. You can find a link to the list on the Summon home page.
Alternatively, if you know the name of a journal, you can find it by searching for the title in Summon, e.g. Journal of Clinical Nursing or European Journal of Marketing. To filter the results to journal titles, select “Journal” under “Content Type” in the “Refine your search” options. You may have to click on “more options” to be able to select the “Journal” option.
Any questions?
If you’ve got any questions after the switchover, please free to leave a comment or get in touch with your Subject Team in the Library.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
SFX upgrade
This morning (27th May) we’ll be applying upgrades and updates to SFX. Whilst this is taking place, MetaLib and SFX may run a litter slower than usual.
MetaLib – problem with clusters and facets
We’ve just been informed by Ex Libris that there’s a problem with the cluster/facet feature on MetaLib:
Dear MetaLib customers, we have just been notified about a problem with the Clusters and Facets functionality, which results from an expiration of the Vivisimo license. We are currently working towards its solution, and we will update you as soon as we solve it. We deeply apologize for the inconvenience.
A “quick fix” has been implemented whilst we wait for Ex Libris to fully resolve the issue.
MetaLib/SFX upgrade on 23/Dec/2008
We’ll be applying a minor upgrade to MetaLib first thing on Tuesday 23rd December. The upgrade to MetaLib 4.2.2 (SP 403) doesn’t add any new functionality, but fixes a minor bug introduced by the previous service pack.
The upgrade work will be carried first thing on Tuesday morning and, if everything goes smoothly, will be completed by 8:30am. Whilst the upgrade is taking place, MetaLib will be unavailable.
Following on from that, we’ll be running a routine update of SFX. Although this takes longer to complete, SFX should be available throughout the update process.
As always, if you have any questions, please email library.support@hud.ac.uk
