So long Metalib…

During the Summer months Metalib will be replaced by Summon.

Summon is a search engine that provides fast, simple access to relevant, scholarly material for University of Huddersfield staff and students. Summon will search all of our databases that were previously available via Metalib including e-books, the University Repository and the Library Catalogue.

You can access Summon now by clicking on the image below and it is also available via the CLS web pages, the Portal and Blackboard.

We will be offering training sessions on Summon in due course to all UCB staff and students (but it is pretty easy to use).

IT drop-in sessions

From September Julie will be holding some basic IT drop-in sessions on effective use of the University Systems. These will include  :- Portal Plus, Email, Word, PowerPoint and Blackboard to name but a few.

We’ll also be holding some sessions towards the end of the summer break on information retrieval. Further details on dates and times will be published at a later date.

Windows 7

You’ve seen the adverts. Pretty soon Windows 7 will be on a desktop near you! Alistair and Julie will be installing  the new student image over the summer months which will include Windows 7. It will be installed on all new staff PCs too. If  you would like it on your PC let Alistair and Julie know and they’ll add  your name to their list.

New LCC Staff Members

We have a couple of new staff members starting in the Library next week:-

Martin Thornton is our new library assistant. Martin will be starting with us on Monday 12 April and will be working part-time, term time only.

Matthew Hall will be volunteering with us every Wednesday afternoon for a couple of hours. His main duty will be to help out with the shelving.

We extend a warm welcome to both Martin and Matthew.
