Education Image Gallery – Featured Database

Education Image Gallery provides access to 1000′s of copyright cleared images from selected major image archives covering diverse subject areas including:- arts, crime, disaster, education, health and war. Useful if you want to include a quality, copyright cleared image in presentations or lecture slides.

Each image includes tips on downloading and information on how to reference any image used.

Access is via Summon, follow the ‘A-Z electronic resources’ link from the Summon homepage. Select the letter ‘E’ and then ‘Education Image Gallery’ and click on the access link. Click on the ‘Direct Access’ tab to enter Education Image Gallery.

New addition to PortalPlus

We hope that you are already enjoying the new improved PortalPlus which is now especially designed for UCB students, but if not we have something that might be more tempting for you.

We are proud to announce that the new UCB Discussion Forum goes live today within PortalPlus.  The forum has been created to allow UCB students to:

  • ask for help from fellow students or staff,
  • help peers by answering forum questions,
  • make comments and suggestions regarding our services.

To gain access to the forum you will need to log into PortalPlus and then click on the “Support and Advice” tab.  You will then see a section called “UCB Discussion Forum”.  Click on this to gain access.

Once you are within the forum, you will be able to view messages posted by other members but if you want to post a message yourself you will need to register and then login.  This is a very simple process – but if you have any problems please speak to a member of the LCC staff.

Featured Database: Mintel

Mintel is an invaluable resource that provides access to UK marketing reports. It covers a wide range of sectors from Leisure (including music and broadcasting), Retail, Finance and Industry (including construction and sustainable building).

Data includes market size, trends and consumer habits.

Access is via Summon or direct at Mintel. A username and password is required. For more information on using Mintel please see Jane or Sarah in the library.

Knovel: resource for construction professionals

We’re going to have a ‘Featured Database’ section to highlight resources we think students and staff will find useful. Our first featured database is Knovel:-

Knovel is a great resource for construction professionals. It uses a simple search function to provide full-text access to e-books in construction and other related subject areas.

Titles include:-

Building construction handbook (8th ed), Building design and construction (6th ed), Green building material, Sustainable construction and many more.

Access is via Summon or direct at Knovel. Username and password required. For more information please contact a member of LCC staff.
