Art Deco Icons: London Transport: David Heathcote explores the best examples of Art Deco in Britain. He visits the dramatic 1930s London Transport HQ and takes a trip on the Piccadilly Line.

British Masters: We Are Making a New World: James Fox looks at British art in the early 20th century, when a radical generation of painters pioneered a style that made sense of the modern experience.

The June issue of Twist: The International Magazine for Luxury Fabrics, Yarns and Fibres, reported that the University of Huddersfield has recently been identified as a centre of excellence by the Worshipful Company of Weavers.  One of the benefits of this, is that the University will receive a grant to improve and update materials and machinery in the Weave area.

I’ll certainly be keeping an eye on Twist for more reports on the University of Huddersfield, as well as other articles of local interest.  Twist is published on a monthly basis by the World Textile Information Network, along with titles such as Future Materials, International Dyer, and Knitting International. Copies of all of these magazines can be found in the Art and Design area on floor 3:

It’s also possible to keep up to date with new articles appearing in these titles, or search for previously published reports by using the Textile Technology Index- an International database of journal articles in the field of Textiles. We have lots of new titles arriving in the Library at the moment- all ready for the next academic year! Here is a small selection of the Art and Design titles we’ve received this week:

Here in the Library we have a large collection of Exhibition Catalogues; the books which are published to accompany temporary exhibitions in museums and galleries. We have arrangements with over 50 National and International institutions, which means that we receive the catalogue for any exhibitions they stage. For example, we regularly receive catalogues from Tate Modern, The Hayward Gallery, The Serpentine Gallery, The Whitney Museum, and The Guggenheim (New York).

We’re pleased to announce that Mintel Reports are now availabler within Summon.

The reports should have the ‘content type’ of ‘Report’ so you can easily refine your search to show just the Mintel items. e.g. for Fashion Retail reports

Simon Starling : recent history by S Starling, Society of Illustrators … 52nd annual of American illustration and Building the revolution : Soviet art and architecture 1915-1935 by JL Cohen are now all in-stock at the library.

We have a trial to AJ Buildings Library(AJBL) until March 31st. AJBL is a digital database that showcases hundreds of exemplar projects, most from the past 20 years but including those that date back to 1900.
